SB 9 PASSES IN THE SENATE!!!

SB 9 passed its final vote in the California State Senate and now is headed to the Govenor’s desk. If signed, it will become law. If he vetoes it, the bill will die. PLEASE, RIGHT NOW, call Governor Brown and urge him to sign SB 9 into law. Governor Brown’s phone is: (916) 445-2841.

California Supreme Court Holds 110 Year Sentence Unconstitutional

The California Supreme Court issued its decision in People v. Caballero, finding that a 110-year-to-life sentence imposed on a juvenile convicted of nonhomicide offenses is cruel and unusual punishment under the Eighth Amendment of the US Constitution.

In an historic vote, Senate Bill 9 passed  in the California State Assembly today and now heads to the Senate for a concurrence vote. To be passed into law it will need to be signed by the governor as well.  Go to our action page to see what you can do to help!
